Traveling and Healthy Skin

I've received so many questions about how to travel and keep your face clear and your skin happy. It can be difficult with all of the new places, foods, weather, and sleep schedules that you encounter when traveling. Through many trials and tribulations, I've found some hacks that can help make sure my skin stays clear and happy throughout my journey. I hope they can help you too!

Water

Okay, I'll admit this might seem obvious to many, but you'd be surprised by the amount of people who forget to hydrate! I know having to pee often is a nuisance, especially in a new place, but your skin will thank you. Air travel is taxing on your skin. Recycled plane air dries your skin out and isn't the cleanest. Similarly, in many cities pollution can clog your pores and cause breakouts. Drinking water consistently throughout the day will help you manage these issues. I'd recommend investing in a LifeStraw so you can trust the water you drink wherever you go! I also love HydroFlask and other vacuum seal bottles that keep my water cool/hot wherever I go!

Tinted Moisturizer

Makeup can be a hassle to travel with. It takes up space in your limited liquids bag on flights, can spill easily, takes time out of your vacation to put on/take off, and isn't practical in tropical destinations. If you're like me and love to take adventure trips, you rarely think about makeup. I often only pack a mascara wand. But, other folks can't leave the house without some coverage. Whichever kind of person you are, I recommend investing in a tinted moisturizer. It can blur our imperfections and give you a dewy glow for photos while keeping your skin hydrated. It's the best of both worlds. My current favorite is First Aid Beauty's Tinted Moisturizer in Medium. Aside from its great quality, its rectangular packaging helps it to fit easily in my liquids bag without taking up too much space. You can get it at both Ulta and Sephora.

SPF!

I sincerely hope this is already part of your daily routine. SPF protects your skin both now and down the road. It's not just to prevent sunburns, but also age spots and below the skin damage. SPF is a crucial part of keeping your skin happy both home and abroad. I personally hate white, chalky sunscreen that leaves you with a grey-ish hue. It never seems to rub in all the way and feels heavy on my skin. My magic answer has been Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40. It may seem pricey, but it's well worth it! It is clear, easily absorbed and not chalky. It leaves your skin glowing and protects it at the same time. A little goes a long way, so the 1.7oz will actually last you a while. The formula is scentless, waterproof, and can double as a primer for your makeup. It doesn't get better than that! You can find it at Sephora.

3 in 1 Lotion

Consolidating liquids when you travel is a must! 3 in 1 lotion handles your face, hands, and body. It comes in amazing scents and could replace tinted moisturizer if that's not your thing. I think it does an amazing job of hydrating and protecting my skin when I travel. I buy mine at WholeFoods.

Lip Balm

It is easy to forget that lip care is skin care! Please keep your lips moisturized while you travel. Especially so if you wear lots of lipstick, which can dry out your lips. You could have the dewiest, glossiest, most hydrated face on the planet, but it wouldn't mean anything if your lips are chapped. Plane air dries out your lips the same way it dries out your face and not all lip balms are made alike. Invest in a quality lip balm that suits your lips. For me, regular Chapstick doesn't work. Brands like Burts Bees and Buddha Balm don' work well for me either. My favorite lip balm of all time is a cacao butter balm. It smells great and is so luscious. I recommend checking it out! I bought my all-time favorite one in Peru, but I'm sure there are similar options a bit closer to home.

Eye Cream

Traveling will inevitably leave you tired. Get rid of dark circles and eye bags with a hydrating eye cream. I dab some on every morning before I leave for the day. Be sure to use your ring finger (the gentlest finger!) and dab, don't rub. It won't change your eyes over night, but over time you will see a huge difference. My personal favorite is It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Brightening Eye Cream. Again, this is a bit expensive and there are definitely cheaper alternatives. Ask for samples at your favorite beauty store and find what's right for you.

Sheet Masks

Okay, ya'll...this is my best kept secret! Everywhere I go, I make sure to bring sheet masks. At a minimum I bring one mask per day of flying and use them the night after. They are super thin and fit easily into any bag. Also, you don't have to put them in you liquids bag. I have done this countless times across tens of countries and never had an issue. If you've ever purchased a sheet mask, you know that the options are limitless. I suggest you reach for ones marked any of the following: rejuvenating, hydrating, brightening, or caffeine. Of course, choose what is best for your skin type as well. But I promise your skin will be glowing for the next day! Plus, what better way to settle in from a long day of travel then with a well deserved face mask!? Sheet masks have truly made all the difference in my travel skincare routine. I don't have particular favorites because I switch it up all the time. Some that I use often include: GlamGlow BUBBLESHEET™ Oxygenating Deep Cleanse Mask, Sephora Brand masks, and Pacifica Stress Rehab Coconut & Caffeine Facial Mask.
